Write your own mini-saga.

Robet S. Donovan (flickr)
Here is the web page you need to use to write your mini-saga. Remember to give a title to your post (the words you use for the title won't count among the total fifty, as I told you in class) and to include the label "mini-saga". Add a picture related to your story. You can find some here. We will have a contest with your creations and those by E2D and E3C students. Apart from that, as a homework I'd like you to visit the entries with the title My Future Studies in A gold Miner and leave a comment to at least one of them. As usual, you must be polite, praise the entry's content, sign with your Blogger account (for me to check that it was you the one who was there) and mention that we have our own class blog that, by the way, is running for the Espiral Edublogs Award 2010. Remember that A Gold Miner is maintained by a group of students similar to yours who are following Ampliación de Lengua Inglesa as you are doing. Have a Happy Easter!

MY TRIP TO HUELVA

Hello! My name is Jorge and my talk is going to be about the trip that I did to Huelva with my best friend and his family. I was there fifteen days and all the days were sunny and hot, except the last day. In the fifteen days we made a lot of things: we met a lot of people from all the world. Though we were going to go all the days to the beach, there were two days that we spend visiting places. We visited the virgin of the Rocío, the cathedral of Huelva, the football stadium of Recreativo de Huelva... In the nigths we usually went to discos, pubs and one night we went to see a show of a famous humorist. In this travel I did one of the most exciting experience in my life, that is driving a kart in a circuit but the really exciting thing was driving under the rain very fast. For remenbering this trip I sold a nace of gold of the virgin of the Rocío though I think I will never forget this trip. Thanks for listening and that´s all.

My holydays in London

Hello, I’m Alvaro Muñoz and I’m going to talk about my holydays in London.
Two years ago, in June, I went to London in a travel with the high school for half a month.
We were in a plane for two hours, and before it, I was really excited and nervous, because it was the first time I had traveled by plane, but I found it very boring.
At the first time, I thought that it would be so difficult to speak English all the time for two weeks, and it was true during the first days, but when I was used to doing it, it was easier than I had thought.
We were in a residence near a small village and about forty kilometers to London. We had English classes for two hours during all mornings and, in the afternoon, we could choose between playing sports, going to the village to do shopping or going to walk in the countryside, and some days we went into a trip to London or another city. The weather was horrible but we watched many monuments and places like Big Ben, the Tower of London and we went to the British Museum.
What I liked most was that we could do what we wanted during the trips, for example ,when we went to visit something, after doing it, we had about 3 hours of free time for doing what we would want.
Thanks for your attention, that’s all.

My sad story...

And I found me alone in a dark room...

We left the aiport when the policemen took my parents for to do a questioning due to the charge of kidnapping a girl like me...

I haven´t seen them and now I´m living in a place so distant from my home... (Lorena Gómez B1ºB)

My holidays: South France

Hi! My name is Natalia González.
My talk is going to be about my holidays with my parents in France.
In the summer of 2009 I went to France, I visited some villages. Their names are Lourdes, San Juan de Luz and Biarritz.
San Juan de Luz and Biarritz are located behind the Pirineos in the west coast of France. These villages were very similar between them. Lourdes is located in the southeast of France behind the Pirineos too.
On the trip to Lourdes, my father was wrong about the way and climbed to a peak of the Pirineos. The name of the peak is Le Col d'Aubisque and its height is 1709 meters.
The road that we had to pass was narrow and had many curves.
When we got up at all it was cloudy and foggy, we could not see anything. Afterwards we could get off after three hours climbing.
Lourdes is a very well known village because it resembled the Virgin Mary. We visited the sanctuary and the grotto where appearance.
We only spent three days touring these three willages and returnd to Alcorcón.
Thanks for you attention and that's all.

My holidays: Santander!

Hello! My name is Natalia and my talk is going to be about my travel to Santander.
I was there last Easter with my parents, my sister, my uncles and my cousins.
We visited a lot of places together. Santander is a fantastic place where there are many things. We were there for a week.
First of all, as soon as we arrive there, we went to the apartment, left the luggage and started our visit. We went to the beach, but as it wasn't summer we didn't bathe, so we walked around the beach and after that we went to the other places. I really love Santander's beaches because they are beautiful and very, very big. They were extremely crowded but the problem was that the water was cold.
During our stay there, we visited different villages that are located near the coast. Some of them are San Vicente De La Barquera, Suances, Noja, Laredo, Santoña... etc.
We visited some historic buildings as "The Gran Casino" of Santander, the "Palacio de la Magdalena" beside many different parts in every town. Furthermore, the weather during those days was very good; most of  the days it was sunny, which allowed us to make a route around Santander. Some days the weather was cloudy and, one of them, it rained a lot. Anyway we got lucky, we could visit a lot of differents places because in general the weather was really good.
Eventually, one of the anecdotes I remember was that one of the days, the weather was really good and we spent the day in Laredo. In the morning, we visited the port of that village and a very curious thing is that the harbour was full of fish and people are pulling into this water from high curbs. Well, then, in the back of the beach had an annoying noise from the microphones and loudspeakers because they were testing for a concert or something like that. We were tired of that noise and finally, we decided to ask what concert they prepared, and they answer to us: "this night, Bustamante is going to sing there", so we had dinner near the beach and afterwards we went to the concert.
In my opinion, I love traveling to different places but I prefer places which have a beach. There are villages very older and beautiful to see, but I love the sea. The travel to Santander was funny and I would like to go again in the summer, so I can swim in their fantastic beaches.
That's all. Thanks for your attencion. =)

Conversations in Spain.

This is an eighteen minutes long video taken from The Learning English Video Project at English Club. It deals with the same topic as our previous post on Spaniards learning languages. It adds up to the question and gives interesting details. Some Spanish people offer their own experiences at learning English, and we can find very good pieces of advice. Which is the one you find more useful? I have included the English version with English subtitles... And, for those interested, clicking on this link you can find some very interesting activities. Enjoy yourselves!!

Parque de Lisboa News 11

Welcome to our news program. Today we will talk about spring starting and next holidays; an incident that took place in Alcorcón; and our literary recommendation. But first,

Start of the spring and the next holidays.
On March 21 spring
began. The very cold winter changed into a mild spring which will be warm soon, Easter holidays begin and we have our school break. During these days, students will get their marks in all schools, which means that the second term is over and this year's last stage begins. Holidays officially begin on Friday 26 and, since then, students have a week and a half to rest. This term has been a long and complicated one but then, the most difficult one comes, so we have to enjoy our holidays as spring has just started. (By Natalia García).

An incident takes place in Alcorcón.
Last Sunday there was a fight with guns in Alcorcón at half past four in the afternoon in Polvoranca street in front of the disco ''Casablanca''. The fight was because of a drug business. A man owed money to other one, then they began to argue and they ended up shooting each other and then the boy that owed the money died because the other one killed him with the gun. Then the murderer tried to escape but the police caught him and the police saw that this man was carrying pot in his pockets and then the police went up his house and they discovered more pot there. This man was arrested by the police and I think that he is in prision
. (By Eva Dalía).

The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the Ring.
I'm going to talk about the last book I've read, that is The Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship of the ring, written by Tolkien, who was born on January 3rd, 1932 in Bloenfonteim, South Africa. After serving in World War he started a distinguished academic career as Professor of Anglo-Saxon Language and Literature. This book is a descriptive text that outlines magical and beautiful places full of magic and power. Apart from that, basically this story is about trust, friendship and fear of the dark. Besides the books, the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings movies were created, based on the different books. They soon became blockbusters. Games for computer or playstation appeared as well, taking advantage of Tolkien's books (By Rubén Pastor Panes).
Of course the answer to our weekly question "Where will next world football championship be celebrated?" is South Africa. We have a new question for you, please leave your answer as a comment to this post: "What's the name of the best Spanish Formula 1 pilot ever?" Thank you very much for your kind attention. Goodbye!

My Holidays: The Netherlands

Hi!

I´m Lorena Gómez and I´m going to talk about my holIday travel.

I went to the Netherland the last year for eleven days with the high school. I remember this time as if it had been yesterday.

At the first moment, I was very nervous because I knew that she spoke English very well because she had been in my house and I thought that I wouldn´t understand nothing. Also, I went al home were I didn´t know nobody and I had to pass a lot of time here! But I had lucky because a classmate had to live with me while we werw in the Netherland and as she was bilingual, when I need help, she help me...

But too, I have lucky with the family! I was very happy because they were a really fun and good family. They did anything to order to we were happy and comfortables.

The mother was very funny as the girl who I did the exchange and the father and brother were serious but they were vey kind!

The home where I lived was very big! It had two floors and a garage, also it had a garden and a trampoline! I was very surprised because all the houses were equal!

All week unless the weekend, we went to high school but we were here two hours more or less because the, we went to do differents things or to see different places as Amsterdam, museums... When we went to these places, I saw the streets and it was incredible because in the middle of the streets were long rivers, and of course, a lot of bikes!

We went to the Red Light District and we saw a lot of girls into the windows... I didn´t like that because I think that the girls didn´t like to be here and doing that they must to do, poor girls...

I met netherland people and I surprised about it´s language because they pronunced a lot the letter `j´... I didn´t like it´s language!

All the things werw fantastic but there was a problem... The weather.
It was very bad and it was always rainning...

When I came back to Spain, I bought presents for my family and my friends as a mill, typical something from there.

I´m going to finish telling my holidays but before, I would like to tell you a little story that I lived there...
My classmate, my exchange and me went home by bike and when we arrived, I tried to get off the bike with my feet on the floor because the brakes were broken, but the bike was vey high for me and I hadn´t time to lose so I fell into the bushes of the house!!
It gave me a huge embarrasment but now, I remember that and I laugh a lot!

Finally, I´m going to tell a bit about the Netherland.
The Netherland is an european country and it belongs to the European Union. The territory of the country consists of lownloads that approximately onde third are located at sea level or below it.
The Netherland is located in northwestem Europe, bordered to the north and west by the North Sea to the South with Belgium and East Germany.
The country is one of the most densely populated and it´s one of the most developed states.

Thank you for your attention!

My holidays: Asturias

Hello! I´m Vanessa. My talk is going to be a Asturias. Asturias is north of Spain. To be located the west with Galicia and east with Cantabria.
First, I went to Asturias on holidays with my parents and my brother to my grandfather´s house. My brother was very small and I was about ten years. My grandfather lives in Gijón, one of the most important cities in Asturias. My grandfather lives near two beaches and fifth minute of the big beach called San Lorenzo, is very famous.
Then, in the holidays we visited several areas known as the Lakes of Asturies cobadonga. They are very pretty but also very dangerous because there is a always fog.
Finally, the climate is warm, not as in south of Spain that is very hot in summer.
I was fifteen days, then I came to Madrid on the way home.
There is enough tourism in the summer, who come to see the sights of the mountains and the beach.
Conclusion, the holidays in Asturias were great.
Thanks for listening.
That´s all.

SWEDEN

Hello, I’m Alvaro Muñoz and I’m going to talk about a European country called Sweden. Sweden is situated between Finland, Norway and the Baltic sea in the north of Europe. The capital of Sweden is Estocolmo, but there are also other important cities like Goteborg, Malmo, Norrkoping and Linkoping. The weather of Sweden is cold, it is between 0 and 15º C during the winter and in summer it is about 10 or 15 degrees.
Nowadays in Sweden its used the euro, and before it, they used the Swedish crown.
About the history of this country, there are many things to say, first of all, I´m going to say that the Vikings went to Sweden from Finland during the 8th century, and they were here about 200 years. Secondly, Sweden was united with Norway during the years 1814-1905, and finally the Constitution was created in 1840.
The population of Sweden is approximately 8.873.100 people, but eighty per cent of them are living in the south of the country, where are the most of the important cities.
The economy of Sweden is based on the renewable energy, and they have lots of hydroelectric centrals, but they have also nuclear centrals and oil wells.
Thank you for your attention.

My holidays: Peñíscola

Hi everybody! I'm Álvaro and this time my talk is going to be about my last trip. It was in the last September and I went to Castellón, to Peñíscola. I went with my parents. My father had a free month and my mother had got a few days. They were looking for a bargain of last minute and the living room was full of holiday magazines. In the end, they found it, well, more or less. But first of all we had to tidy the living room. Secondly we did the suitcases and thirdly, at the next day, we got up soon and we set off.
The journey was long, but listening to music everything happens faster.
The best thing of Peñíscola was the beach. Its sand was great and the water... what to say about the water? It was perfect, not too cold, but it was cool.
The lodging was in front of the beach. We used to take no more than three minutes to go to the beach. It wasn't bad. The only bad thing was the timetable. Why do they do breakfast so early in every hotel?
We used to have breakfast and then we used to visit the town, but in the town there wasn't any interesting place to visit. To begin with the old town it was on the castle, Papa Luna's Castle, which we visited. But just inside the walls, because inside the castle it cost a price. Besides, it was interesting too.
The food in the hotel wasn't bad, the best thing were the desserts.
When we used to finish to eat, we used to sleep around one hour in our room.
The problem of going to the beach with my mother is that I used to have to wait two hours before swimming in the beach after eating in the hotel.
We also visited the mouth of the river Ebro Delta. It was an amazing experience because we went along the river delta in a ship. We used to eat well in the hotel but anyway, near the river, my father caught a bit of rice from the rice field and he wanted to buy a pack of rice! Afterwards we bought a plate with a picture of my parents that they took them in the ship. Now this plate decorates our living room furniture.
As it was September, a day it started to rain just as we went to the beach, altough it didn't rain a lot and it stopped after a while.
We visited Marina D'Or Holiday Resort, but that was in the way back and we only visited it, we didn't go into its spa or its pool.
The last day, when we returned, we passed by Valencia and we went to its beach, but is was dirtier than the beach in Peñíscola. It was 4 pm and my mother thought that the restaurants were closed so we went to a Mercadona and we bought some food to eat. Then we went to a park and we got to eat, like in a street drinking. We stayed there just five days or so and we could visit the nearest places of there.
After that, I was so tired that while my father was driving I was sleeping. Eventually, as soon as we went back home, we ate because it was 10 pm. Thank you for listening to me.

Parque de Lisboa News 10

Welcome to our tenth weekly program. Today we will talk about Pope John Paul II, Badalona FC and their anthem, and we bring you our question, only to be answered by football fanatics this time. But first,

JOHN PAUL II
Karol Wojtyla was born in Wadowice (Poland) on 18th March 1920 and died on 2nd April  2005 in Vatican City. His 26-years pontificate (1978-2005) was the third longest of the Catholic Church History, after Saint Peter's and Pius' IX popedoms. His beatification, to be concluded on October 2010, started three months after his death, without waiting for the five years specified by the rules of the Church. It is, actually, the agile rhythm of "the God's Athlete". In his papacy the most important highlights are: innovation of the pastoral practise (e.g: the worldwide christian youth meetings), his influence on the liberation of Poland and his four visits to Spain. After his death, a French woman who had Parkinson was miraculously cured. John Paul II changed the world history only with the strengh of the spirit, becoming a reference for all the people, catholics or non catholics. (By David Cirbián).

BADALONA FC
Last month a football club of Barcelona called Badalona FC decided to give up playing their own anthem because the company SGAE wants to be paid 140€ every time that the club plays the song in their stadium. It seems that the club asked for a new anthem in 2003 because of the centenary of the club. It was composed by two authors and one of them wants to take more money for doing it, and he acussed them to the SGAE. The team says that they can't pay for it because they have many teams in all categories and they would have to pay more than 1000€ every weekend, so they decided to pay for all the weekends that they have been playing the anthem up to now and not play it any more. (By Álvaro Muñoz).

To finish our program, we must give you the answer for last week's question. It was "What's the capital of the United Kingdom?" and the answer is... "London". Our new weekly question is: "Where will next world football championship
be celebrated?" Leave your answer as a comment to this post. Thank you very much for your kind attention, we will meet again next week.

DENMARK

Hi, my name is Alejandro Montero and i'm going to talk about Denmark. The capital of Denmark is Copenaghe with more than five hundred thousand of people. The official language is Danish, one of the most difficult languages in the world because pronunciation is very hard.

Aarhus, Aalborg and Copnhague are the main cities in Denmark because these cities produce the principal country's income by thing like tourism and export of food and energy. Weather in Denmark is cold and rainy in winter but warm and sunny in summer.
The currency of Denmark isn' the euro, is the danish crown and 1 euro is equal than 7'4 danish crowns.

Danish starts to study at 6 years old and they have 9 years of obligatori study. Curiosly, the university starts at 22 years old because when they are 18 they try to get a house and search a job and they have a help from goverment of 700 euros every month. That's why they can be independent and they can travel a lot. Furthermore, their parents prefer don't help with money to their sons because be independet means you must earn your own money.
In history, Vikings and the best identification about Denmark's history. They atack all Europe and they destroy most of it by sacking and attacks to important cities like Rome or Seville, in 844.
The official religion in Denmark is Protestan Christianity because in 1536 the protestant reform join to denmark and it makes a great impact in danish people.
That's all.

THE UNITED KINGDOM

Hi!!! I'm Alex, and my talk is going to be about the United Kingdom. Well, first of all I say that the UK comprises Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Nothern Ireland. Other territories like the Channel Islands, Man and the Crown colonies are also part of the facto British State. It was the first industrialized country in the world and the leading world power during the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Mayor cities in the UK are London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Liverpool, Edimburgh, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester and Bradford.
Secondly, the capital of UK is London, its language is English and its currency is the pound sterling. The UK is currently a leading industrial and commercial nation of the world. In terms of gross domestic product it's sixth in the world after USA, Japan, China, Germany and France.
Speaking about the climate, is very cold and rainy troughout the year, more than half the days are cloudy. The British weather is highly variable and can go very quickly from a cold, rainy day to a sunny day in just a few hours.
Also, I will talk about their culture. The primary means of communication is television and her main channel is the BBC, that is the leading public radio station in the UK and the largest and oldest broadcaster in the world. Thus, the sport is a key element of British culture, because many sports were created in the UK, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis and golf (football remains the most popular in the country).
Finally, I say that the UK is a member of the EU since 1973. That's all, thanks!!

Welcome to our eighth program. Today we are going to talk about dangerous floods in Ciudad Real and Andalusia, and the book Bajo la fría luz de octubre as our literary recommendation. We are going to finish with our interesting weekly question. But first,

DANGER OF FLOODS IN CIUDAD REAL.
I'm from La Solana, a village in Ciudad Real. Recently, I've heard that Azuer river is endangering Membrilla, Manzanares and San Carlos del Valle, that are very close to my village. The authorities had let the water flow from Puerto Hermoso reservoir in anticipation of the rain that was expected and that has finally arrived. But even so the area is in great danger of flooding. (By Rosa Mª Labián).
FLOODS IN THE SOUTH OF SPAIN.
This February in the south of Spain in the Andalusian community there has been much rain, causing floodings in every province. In the Andalusian community there had been unexpected storms, overflowing rivers and floodings in low houses that have destroyed the houses inside and also outside. The cars could not be used as the streets were flooded. The communication was interrupted in some places and the inhabitants had to survive with what they had at the time because going outside was dangerous. Schools and colleges were closed. Emergency services had to work 24 hours a day since their collaboration was very important at the time. Andalusia has suffered much damage by heavy rains this month. (Vanessa Sánchez)

THIS WEEK'S BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Bajo la fría luz de octubre.
Its author is Eloy M. Cebrián. The book spans from the moment in wich the Republic is restored until the end of the Spanish Civil War. The story deals with the life of a girl named Juana. She has lived this period in a Republican family. Juana tells all the hardships they had to undergo. I recommend this book because it helped me understand and learn very much about this period. It is written in a very simple and clear style. This book is written in the first person and draws you deeper and deeper into the story. It received the Jaén prize for Literature for children and teenagers. (Natalia González Tajuelo).

To end our program, we are going to give you our weekly question, but, before that, the answer to our previous question "What's the name of the Spanish Prime Minister?" was... José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero! This week we want you to leave comments answering this question: What's the capital of the United Kingdom? Thank you very much for your kind attention. We'll meet again next week.
